The magnificent nature of Shiga Kogen

【UNESCO Eco Park】
The "MAB (Man And Biosphere) program" is UNESCO proposed to protect and promote areas where humans and nature coexist.
Shiga Kogen is a UNESCO Eco Park Biosphere Reserve designated as a MAB (Metropolitan Area of Biosphere), and is also a national park established by the Japanese government.
Shiga Kogen is a resort area where untouched nature remains.
Here, humans and nature live together hand in hand.

【Clear air】
In the clear air, delicate alpine plants bloom in abundance along a wide variety of trekking course.
In autumn, the mountains are painted in fiery red leaves.
Furthermore, during the summer months, the average temperature in August is a dreamy cool 20°C.
Shiga Kogen is home to a vast area dotted with ski slopes of various sizes, all of which boast some of the most abundant snowfall and high-quality powder snow in Japan.

There is a convenience store (winter only) within walking distance.
Restaurants, supermarkets, drug stores, etc. are located about 30 minutes away by car.
The post office ATM is located in Hasuike Area, about a 10-minute drive away.
Ichinose Clinic (open only in winter, during the New Year holidays, and on weekends) is a 2-minute walk away.
There is also a clinic about 25 minutes away by car.
For nighttime or emergency situations, Hokushin General Hospital is about a 40-minute drive away.
  • Ski Resort Introduction

    Shiga Kogen, said to have some of the best snow quality in Japan, has a long ski season, allowing you to ski from December through the Golden Week holidays in May.
    Because of the high altitude and the fact that the temperature does not rise much even during the day, it is said that the powder snow lasts for a long time.
    Another attraction of Shiga Kogen is the ability to visit multiple ski resorts.
    Among them, we would like to introduce two slopes that are accessible from our hotel.
  • Introduction to trekking

    Spring comes late in Shiga Kogen, with buds beginning to sprout from the villages and making their way up the mountains around the Golden Week holidays in May.
    We reach the top of the mountain just before summer arrives. (Mid-June)
    Various alpine plants bloom one after another, which also coincides with the wild vegetable season.
    The average summer temperature is below 20°C, with an average daytime high of 23°C, making it dreamily cool.
    Shiga Kogen, dotted with mountains, lakes and ponds, is a veritable trekker's paradise, with hiking trails and walking paths crisscrossing the area.
    At higher elevations, the leaves begin to change color from mid-September onwards and are at their best in early October.
    The environment is designed to allow you to easily enjoy nature throughout the four seasons.
    Among them, the following two take about an hour, so you can enjoy them casually.

      Seseragi Course

      A boardwalk walkway runs along the Zako River in front of the hotel.
      There are several marshes along the way,
      You can enjoy the sight of wetland plants blooming in abundance throughout the four seasons.
      It is also a conservation area for the original species of char, and you can observe char swimming in the crystal clear river.
    • Shinanoki Course

      The climax of the promenade begins about 30 meters to the left from the hotel.
      A giant linden tree, 800 years old and designated as Special Natural Monument of Nagano Prefecture, awaits you.
      This large tree, said to be one of the largest in the country, has a root circumference of about 10 meters.
      This life that has existed for an eternity is definitely worth seeing.
      A special stage has been built to protect the tree's roots.
      Please do not go beyond this range when observing.
  • Information on sightseeing in the area

    • Jigokudani Yaen-Koen

      Yaen Koen is located at the foot of Shiga Kogen, deep within Jigokudani Onsen.
      This popular spot offers a rare opportunity to observe wild Japanese macaques bathing in hot springs up close.

      ① Via Kanbayashi(35 minutes by car + 25 minutes on foot)
      ② Via Jigokudani paid parking lot(40 minutes by car + 15 minutes on foot)*Not allowed in winter
      There are two ways to get there.
      You can also take a bus to Kanbayashi from the bus stop next to our hotel.

    • Obuse Town

      Obuse Town is famous as "Hokusai and the Chestnut Town," and more recently as "Hana no Machi."
      A popular tourist spot where the unique history and culture remain strong.

    • Zenkoji Temple

      A historical temple that Shinshu) proudly presents to the world.
      The main hall was designated a national treasure in 1953.
      In addition, the temple gate and sutra repository are designated as important cultural properties.
      A popular spot with plenty to see.
      The castle town surrounding it is also the secret to its popularity.
